FILM PROMITIONAL WEBSITE

Conventions of a Website

Navigational features: These are clearly displayed on a web page and are essential in guiding the user through the content contained on a site. When web designers are building a website, the navigational features are among the most important to get right.

Web banner: This is the title or header image of a web page and it works in the same way as a newspaper masthead or magazine title. It aims to attract an audience and indicates the type of content available. It does this through choice of image and selection of font.

Flash elements: These design options allow web designers to incorporate animations and interactive content into a website

Advertisements: Though not all websites carry advertisements, many do as it helps generate revenue from site visits.

Multimedia features: This is the use of images, video, text and audio on a website to present information in an engaging and effective way. These features can help make the content more entertaining and informative.

Web links: When links direct a user to another page on the same website they are 'internal links' and when they direct a user to the pages of another website they are 'external links'.

Interactive elements: These allow the user to contribute to the website by taking part in forums, surveys, games, quizzes, or by commenting on an article. In turn, the audience may be inspired to produce blogs and vlogs using platforms like YouTube, Tumblr or WordPress, which encourage interactivity from site visitors.

Research into Film Promotional websites

The promotional website for your film is one of the most important tools for promoting and (eventually) distributing your film.

Your film website will provide an overview of your film, including why you made it and why your audience should care.

As with any business promoting products, your film website needs to be responsive, well-designed, and professional.

This is important in the promotion of the film as a potential audience is able to research into the film and buz is created when posting behind the scenes and in the makeing of footage is very popular with film enthusiasts and directors.

As you scroll down the page, an 'awards and nominations' section is revealed, this is good for publicity and advertising as an audience will be more encouraged to watch it if it is proclaimed by major critics. There is also a featured section which involves the trailer and an interview with the cast and director.

Investigate how important the website is to the promotion of the film.

By creating a website for your film, you're creating a promotion platform which allows you to Connect with Your Audience. Along with allowing your audience easy access to information about your production such as Awards and Laurels, basic information about the film itself or behind the scenes footage of the production of the film. By creating a website, buz is also created as it gives the audience a platform to discuss and explore the production. By featuring a trailer or teaser video, on your website is a great way to create hype around your product. Also by building a clear contact page for all inquiries, including everything from press requests to distribution queries to fans simply looking to learn more.

A variation of templates gives me choice and an idea of what sort of style/ branding I want to create for my Website. After scouring the selection of templates, I decided on the 'News Blog' template as it was bold, eye catching and informative.
